About the role
As a Product Developement Intern / Working Student (m/f/d), you will help us validate and refine our product in close collaboration with customers, operators, operations experts, and internal engineering teams. Depending on your profile, the role can have either a stronger technical focus or a stronger business and market-facing focus.
You will work on topics ranging from customer outreach, expert interviews, market research, and product demonstrations to prototyping small demo systems and test setups. This role offers hands-on exposure to product development in a deep-tech environment combining technical understanding, market insight, and real customer feedback.
What you will do
As a Product Developement Intern / Working Student, you will support ERC’s product and commercial teams in product validation, customer discovery, and market understanding.
What you’ll do:
- Conduct outreach to customers, operators, operations experts, and industry stakeholders
- Prepare, conduct, and document expert interviews
- Support market research, competitor analysis, and customer segmentation
- Participate in product demonstrations, live tests, and customer workshops
- Prototype small demo systems, mockups, or test setups to validate customer interaction
- Support customer-facing payload, subsystem, and demonstration setups
- Translate customer and expert feedback into product insights
- Contribute to product validation processes, documentation, trade fairs, and field tests
what you bring
- You are currently studying Engineering, TUM-BWL, Technology Management, or a comparable technical-business degree, ideally towards the end of your bachelor’s or during your master’s.
- You are interested in customer-centric product development and enjoy bridging technical systems, user needs, and market opportunities.
- Depending on your profile, you bring either a stronger technical builder mindset, a stronger business and research orientation, or a combination of both.
- You have experience in some of the following:
- Building your own projects, tools, prototypes, or demos
- Working with spreadsheets, datasets, or research databases
- Conducting customer interviews, expert interviews, user research, or market research
- Working with microcontrollers such as ESP32, Arduino, or similar platforms
- Using rapid prototyping tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, or simple software mockups
- You are proactive, communicative, and comfortable interacting with customers, operators, and external experts.
- You have strong written and verbal communication skills in English; German is a plus.
- Your citizenship or visa status allows you to work legally in Germany.
- For an internship, you are available for at least 3 months full-time; for a working student role, you are available part-time alongside your studies.
